Kumata & Co., Ltd. is one of the Japan's leading manufacturers of brass model trains.

The company was founded by Mr. Seiichi Kumata in 1955 and it has grown to be a key manufacturer in the Japan's model train industry. On his first visit to the United States in 1959, he successfully closed a few business deals with American importers. Consequently, the business expanded rapidly and he set up a factory in Chiba prefecture in order to cope with the increasing orders from the U.S. customers. As part of the integrated system from manufacturing to exporting, he produced high quality precision models. Before long, Kumata & Co., Ltd. became Japan's number one exporter of brass model trains in Japan.

In 1993, Kumata & Co., Ltd. opened an in-house showroom aiming to strengthen its domestic sales. With the agency contracts with US and German makers, the company has become a (sole) distributor of model trains and digital demand control in Japan. Together with the know-how accumulated through its long-time business operation, Kumata & Co., Ltd. has steadily extended its market in Japan.

Today, Kumata & Co., Ltd. has shifted the focus of its business to manufacturing Japanese model trains and they are well received by the customers as 'Kumata's O/OJ products'. In responding to a wide variety of demands from Japanese business associates, the company also acts as an export agent of motors, railway tracks and other model-train-related products. Kumata & Co., Ltd. has now more than 100 business partners all over the world.
